Trustee nomination: Daniel Smith

Daniel Smith Statement: I want to express my appreciation for the opportunity to share a little bit about my family, myself and the meaning CKA has had on our family.  I am very lucky to be married to Bethany Rivard and the very proud father of two fantastic daughters, Sage and Elsa.  We have been connected with CKA for a bit over four years and it has been one of the most delightful experiences we have had as a family.  I grew up in a Jewish house and Jewish neighborhood outside of Chicago where Jewish customs and traditions were all around me.  Living here in Vancouver and raising a family, that was not the case, until we made the decision to join CKA.

CKA represents the most important values we try to teach our kids.  Seeing them grow up within the congregation has not only had a huge impact on them, but for me as well.  It has reminded me so many times over how important my faith is, how important the connections we have made, the memories we have created together, and the development of a proud Jewish identity for our daughters.   It was because the people we first met when we joined, the dinner offers, the warm gestures and the authentic love and compassion we experienced from the beginning that we keep coming back.  As grateful as I am for our CKA community, I know that we can play a larger role in the years ahead, to make sure that as our generation takes on more leadership and preservation of what has been built, we contribute more when we can.  To that end, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve on the Board, to continue to learn more about the CKA community and contribute meaningfully to the longevity of CKA.
